Media...

On Wednesday in our seminar we talked about the relationship of early newspapers and how it has had an impact on the present day media. I found it rather amusing that in early newspapers they wouldn't allow them to talk or criticize authority figures. Nowadays you never hear any big time medium criticizing the government, it seems like they are actually reporting exactly what they want the general public to believe. I think that there are some things that the media shouldn't report but they only report the things that the government wants you to hear, especially in war times like we are going through. They want you to believe that the war is good and that every should back them up...I think it's a bunch of b.s. and we'll see how it progresses once Bush is out of office....

You must watch "Why We Fight". It will make all your questions about the war a little more clear. You'll just say "wow" after it's over. That's what my post was about the other day because I had just watched it and I think that we all should be watching this type of documentary so that we don't feel like we are only getting 1/2 the story from the newspapers...

I totally agree! I feel like the news and just media in general, wants us to hear and believe what they want us to hear and they are not always reporting the full truth or both sides of the story if you will. I think that news should report both sides of an issue and leave it up to the audience to decide what they want to believe. But i guess it all comes down to money and who has the money to control the news and media..... so depending on who has the money and therefore "the power," depending on where you get your news from we are always going to just recieve the news in a way that caters to their bias, which sucks! Thats why it is important to not always believe what you hear before knowing all the facts. And I can't wait for Bush to be out of office, but I am affraid to say that the news that is reported is always going to be twisted in some way :(
